Ulun Danu Temple in Beratan – Bedugul
>A two hour drive north of Kuta takes you to one of the most photographed temples on the island of Bali – Ulun Danau Temple in Beratan near Bedugul. Situated on the shores of Beratan Lake and is one of Bali‘s kayangan jagat or directional temples and protect Bali from evil spirits from the north-west. It is also a common directional indicator used by locals in reference to the three western lakes.

Ulun Danau Temple in Beratan was built in 1633 by the Mengwi King on the western shore of Beratan Lake. The Balinese people rely on their rice harvest and the goddess of water and fertility, Danu God that the deity worshiped here. The temple is situated in well manicured gardens. The two obvious part of the temple are the structures on the land and those who at one point, extending into the lake. The temple grounds have a range of structures including the multi-tiered Meru.
