Tampak Siring

>Tampaksiring was long a center of the Hindu religion in Bali, which has borders with two of the most sacred temples and relics on the island; Tirta Empul and Gunung Kawi. Tampaksiring – the area is part of the Gianyar district and located about 40 kilometers north of Denpasar and 14 km northeast of Ubud, along a road leading all the way to the Mountain Batur.

Just north of Tampaksiring the road turns right to Tirta Empul. Another road turns left toward Sukarno’s palace, which is at the top of a green hill overlooking Tirta Empul. The palace is divided into two main parts connected by a bridge. Wisma Merdeka was the building where the president stayed, and Wisma Negara was the guesthouse for friends and guests of state, as Ronald Reagan and Soviet President Krustsjov. There is also a home for the press, Wisma Yudistira, and one of the rescuers, Wisma Bima.

The palace built by the president Sukarno overlooks the Tirta Empul temple.The a history of the buildings are said to have been designed by the president Sukarno, who had engineered the formation of Bandung. Estetique views on the values of the buildings are divided. Sukarno, who was half Balinese, who used to stay at the palace during his frequent visits to the island. Some say that Sukarno built a palace near the Balinese Fountain of Eternal Youth to prolong indefinitely its “president for life” status. Indonesian presidents Sukarno after he has used the palace as well, but Suharto remained in the guest house, as they say that the spirit of Sukarno still vague in the presidential quarters.

Tampaksiring - Bathing area

From the palace there is a great view on Tirta Empul. According to rumors himself Sukarno used a telescope to study the naked women who took a bath in the holy water. When he found someone he liked it sent to them, and allegedly is the father of several children on the island. The site is open to visitors, but you can not enter the buildings.

In Tampaksiring can be carved by the articles of ivory, bone or coconut shells, often with intricate carvings and therefore quite expensive. There is not much accommodation in Tampaksiring, so most people come here on a daytrip to Ubud or in the south of Bali.
