Taman Ayun Temple Mengwi – Badung

>Taman Ayun temple was built in the 17th century by the Raja, I Gusti Agung Anom, the temple served as the family temple of the Mengwi dynasty, whose kingdom survived until the late 1800s. The temple is famous for its exquisite wooden merus, or pagoda-like shrines. The kingdom of Mengwi was strong enough for large parts of Badung, Tabanan and Gianyar from the first part of the 17th century until the second half of the 19th century.

The temple is surrounded by a moat and is set to 3 different levels, the courtyard at the top with its own moat. The inner connection complete with beautiful Meru’s, bales and shrines. As many people know the higher the Meru how important it is. The roof is always an odd number of the maximum possible 13.

There are 3 major merus honor of the 3 major mountains in Bali, with an 11 tiered Meru represents Agung mountain and Batukaru mountain and a 9 roofed Meru represents Batur mountain. It is possible to visit the temple at a leisurely pace in an hour or less.
