Swine Flu H1N1 Virus Confirmed in Bali
I knew that it will not be long before the H1N1 virus hit Bali into account the number of tourists who visit the island from all parts of the world. Candika just returned from China, which stated that the street was a white blur mask, and maybe the case will be the same in Bali. Somehow I do not think so, mainly because the Balinese health department is very efficient in dealing with matters of epidemics in the past with diseases such as SARS and avian bird flu.

Indonesian health official, left, wearing a mask as a precaution against swine flu, prepares to disinfect a tourist on arrival at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. The Indonesian Government has raised its alert level for the outbreak of the H1N1 strain of influenza type A, formerly known as swine flu, the adoption of preventive measures, which include a travel warning to prepare hospitals and purchase of drugs.
In Indonesia, there are six confirmed cases and those three were local residents in Jakarta. One can not bury its head in the sand and claim that the virus is not spread in Indonesia, or on the island of Bali. The best thing to do is protect yourself as best possible. If you want to get the full face mask, available at most Australian chemists and ask your doctor.
If you can get some Tamiflu from your GP, then do so. The incubation period for H1N1 virus is seven days and it’s difficult to distinguish between the H1N1 virus and the normal dose of flu.I think the majority of tourists who travel to Bali should feel absolutely confident in the enjoyment and there is no real drama as yet.
Use your common sense and cover your mouth when you cough, and of course wash your hands after eating and use of ablutions. I was however quite happy to read in the Bali Discovery today that the Ngurah Rai Airport is swung into action, so to speak, and has established procedures for screening.
