Sakenan Temple Religious Place in Bali
Located on the ring road between Kuta and Sanur, just after the exit for the port of Benoa is a road bridge about 1 kilometer from the Benoa Street and this will lead to Serangan or Turtle Island. It is on this island you will find an interesting Balinese temple. Pura Sakenan is an important temple for the Balinese people. The temple was built in the 16th century by Javanese priest named Nirartha.

During Galungan festival, especially the closing day of Kuningan, the temple is very busy. In recent years the Balinese people would wade across the Straits of Tanjung Benoa at low tide, when boats could not get across. The construction of the bridge now means people are unlikely to want to do, another famous Balinese scene changed forever. Pura Sakenan is a public temple, meaning Balinese people from all over the island come and receive blessings.
Visiting this temple at a different time when festivals are held, may for most travelers, seems a waste of time. However, it is a serene temple and worth a visit. I was fortunate to visit the temple during the festival Galungan. For those who want to see the ceremony, Galungan falls on October 14, followed by Kuningan on the 24th.
