Dokar Balinese Traditional Transportation
Today, people tend to choose the use of things that are more practical, fast (no time to waste) and cheap. This is also true for the means of transport they use. The streets are now crowded with cars, buses and motorbikes, and there are no trains and metros in Singaraja. The town is still crowded from time to time. Most people use cars and motorbikes, as their vehicles. However, if you go on the market Anyar morning, to be exact in durian Street, you’ll see some dokars parked there. Dock is two rounds of horse-drawn cart. Passenger capacity is a maximum of five (small) people.

In the past, the traditional transport dock, which was very popular among students, teachers, tutors, and rich aristocrats and the like about this vehicle. It was because there was no mechanized transport. The taxi driver from the dock requires special abilities, because not all people can control the running horses and horses willing to follow instructions and kamžt( to the cabby. There is also a special relationship between horse and cab driver.
In Singaraja, the village where we can find a taxi driver is Kampung Singaraja. All about cabmen in the village have come from outside Bali. They are usually around age 45 – 60 Income as a taxi driver is not really a lot and is just enough to feed a family. They will also have to get up early to get more passengers on the market. Their clients are mainly women, who want to buy vegetables or meat to prepare a family meal. Women like to use the dock to take him home, because I think that the dock is safer and more comfortable than motorbikes or bemo. Given that customers are mostly women, in the markets, the burdens of their dock is normally: vegetables, rice, meat, fish, flour, etc.
In addition to requiring specific skills and wagon horses, there is some other device that is necessary to do their job as a taxi driver. The equipment includes basket, strong horse, chain, lamp, etc. care of horses is something that is not easy. Stable for horses should be cleaned regularly to be fed, bathed, and the horse should be equipped with horseshoes to avoid pain when the horse’s feet. In horseshoes should be replaced at least once a month.
Profession as cabmen in Singaraja is not a formal organization as other public transport. A dock may be traveling to cabmen anywhere you want in Anyar market or in Banyuasri market. Fares to dock is not fixed rate means that anyone can negotiate, if he or she wants to have a dock. Fare depends on distance and the load that the customer provides. Usually you have to pay Rp. 5000, if you want to dock. A dock is not the route to other routes of public transport, which is fixed on the transport organization. The cab driver may have customers through the streets in Singaraja as Dewi Sartika Street, A. Yani Street, Merak Street, Diponegoro Street, Hasanuddin Street and Imam Bonjol Street. Sometimes, when the destination of the customer is in the narrow streets taximan will carry him to the place where the dock you can walk it.
Existence dock in Singaraja is not because you want to keep cabmen traditional vehicles, but do not have another opportunity to work. On the other hand, loves his work and horses. They are happy, especially in cases where mothers call them to be mothers to their destinations
