Balinese Day – Purnama and Tilem Day
“Purnama“, the day of full moon and “Tilem“, “the day of the new moon, are special days for the Balinese. On this day, additional offers are made around the family, as well as some offers on the floor at the entrance of the house with. The giant “sesajen offerings are also often at the village temple. Depending on the time of the year, many temples then various forms of entertainment for the village – dance, Wayang puppet performances, plays arja – which coincide with the special prayer for Purnama or Tilem.

It is a good day for planting on Purnama, especially for plants that bear fruit. As much as people often delay planting until the day of the full moon when it is more for a successful harvest. Some people believe that bathing in water scented with the fragrant blossoms of the frangipani flower under the light of the full moon will wash away your sins, while ensuring that you still youthfully attractive.
Very often “odalan” or is called anniversary ceremony in a family temple, the one days, which correspond to Tilem, the same day as “kajeng kliwon” it will organize a performance of “Calonarang” depiction of a struggle between the Powers of the Barong and Rangda, an exorcism of the community to ensure the continuance of the harmony and balance. Of course, the biggest of all these exorcisms occur on 12 Saka Tilem of the calendar year when the whole of Bali performs an exorcism on the eve of Nyepi (Balinese New Year). `
